I sent a friend an email about his business. I thought I'd share the contents, since it applies to virtually any business with a door, hours, a phone, or a retail storefront. If you own a business, you neglect the internet at your peril. Your competitors are online, or will be as soon as someone convinces them to do so. Your customers are definitely online. Most people are! And, many of us use smart phones.

You're participating in an experiment.

I have enjoyed millions of readers on my personal blog, but it was a tad too myopic. They came, made friends temporarily, but the true sticky factor simple wasn't there. The focus of this site continues to morph and change. But, it basically remains a constant experiment. Can I build a decent sized viewership, from scratch? And, can I do it basically sticking to topics that interest me and my clients?

Selling something? That requires you have a product with an offer that induces people to take action. That's your job. My job is showing folks how to generate interest and traffic. I'm pretty good at that part.

You will have a lot of services enabled over the course of your internet presence. All this stuff can easily become overwhelming. The easiest thing to do is create a schedule and a disciplined list of tasks. I'm going to work on creating a practical tutorial on this process this week. I hope you'll have time to review it when I post.

Many companies are rushing to pick up the premium social media marketing services business. Involver is among this throng, offering services to big clients to beef up social presence, as well as offering automated premium services.

As we watch many of these startup dot coms grow, many wonder where's the revenue. Linkedin has a paid model to enable commercial contacts via the Linkedin network dubbed InMail.

Twitter has a lot of dead accounts. Some people want to dump following people that don't tweet. Although if they don't tweet, how annoying can they really be? But, if you want to dump Twitter users that are sloth to tweet, just check out unTweeps, though it's not without its startup bugs.

First, the bugs/annoyances (perceived - update below):

Click on the Facebook Applications link, which is on the bottom left corner of your screen. Then, click on Events.

There is no single dashboard where you can configure your basic settings. An example of this challenge is the MySpace URL, which you can only set once and are never allowed to change once set. If you click on Home, it appears directly below your profile pic. Elsewhere, there is no indication where or how you may change your URL.
